Assistant Vice Provost for University Libraries - University of Connecticut Libraries. As a research-intensive university, and New England's top-ranked public university, UConn encompasses 14 schools and colleges and enrolls 21,000 students representing all 50 states and more than 90 countries. UConn is renewing, rebuilding and enhancing its facilities through an unprecedented $2.3 billion, twenty-year state investment in the University's infrastructure. The UConn Libraries, which include the Storrs Campus libraries, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, and five regional campus libraries is a participating member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, and the Boston Library Consortium.. The Homer Babbidge Library, the main library on the Storrs campus, was rededicated in the fall of 1998 after a $40 million facilities and infrastructure renovation including the creation of an electronic information center that supports new research, teaching, and learning styles. Responsibilities: Working in a team-based environment, the Assistant Vice Provost reports to the Vice Provost for University Libraries and leads the administrative services team of thirteen in overseeing the operations of the library including the recruitment, development, and evaluation of a library staff of 120, an operating budget of $20 million, planning and managing physical facilities, and statistical reporting for the Library. S/he is responsible for the daily operations of the University Libraries, works closely with the six library functional area heads and their team leaders on administrative issues, represents the University Libraries on collective bargaining issues, and represents the Libraries in the absence of the Vice Provost. As a member of the Library Leadership Council, the Assistant Vice Provost plays a key role in the strategic planning process for the Libraries as well as serving as liaison to other offices on campus. The Assistant Vice Provost will be expected to function in a fast-paced, technologically-sophisticated environment; to serve as an effective and energetic supporter of professional development; and to identify and carry out innovative roles for the Libraries in support of the University's teaching, research and learning missions. Qualifications Include: 1. A graduate degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a Master's Degree in Business or Public Administration (MBA/MPA) or equivalent graduate degree. 2. Five or more years' progressively responsible administrative experience at a university or higher education-related organization. 3. Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more appropriate management areas: human resources/labor relations/organizational and staff development; finance and budget; or facilities planning. 4. Ability to provide leadership to an administrative services unit striving to provide quality client services for a diverse group of constituents. 5. Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to consultation and cooperation with Library and University staff, users, and others. 6. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a changing environment and as a facilitator in group settings to build consensus. 7. Outstanding interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. 8. Demonstrated ability to empower staff, promote shared leadership, accountability, and respect.
