Information Services Librarian - Westfield Athenaeum, Westfield, MA. QUALIFICATIONS: An MLS in a program accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of 3 years professional experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A strong public service commitment and a broad and in-depth knowledge of personal computers and their applications in a library setting. Expertise in the use of Windows operating system and knowledge of web-based technologies and open source software. Ability to effectively integrate wireless technology into the library environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team setting, as a member of the Management Team. DUTIES: Responsible for long range planning for technological development and for coordinating and supporting all computer technology services within the library, including the Library's consortium services via C/W MARS. Oversees and maintains Web presence and Internet services, evaluation, selection, installation and maintenance of hardware and software. Trains staff and public in the use of a variety of computer technology, including the use of wireless technology. Provides expert guidance to patrons requesting information and library materials and selects library materials for purchase both in print and electronic format. Works under the direction of the Library Director or his/her designee but works with considerable latitude in setting own daily work plan. Unusual situations are referred to the Library Director or Assistant Director. Work involves the direct on-going instruction of full and part-time staff, library Pages and volunteers within the library service area. Work involves the unsupervised technological support of all computer technology services within the library. May be required to act as "in charge" supervisor in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director. Essential Functions: The essential functions of the duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Administers the library's PC networks in a secure environment, including connection to the C/W MARS network and Comcast's broadband connection. Performs all PC configuration and maintenance activities. Troubleshoots all hardware and software issues on public and staff PCs. Maintains Envisionware's time/print management system in use on all public PCs. Develops and oversees the annual budget for automation and electronic resources. Develops and maintains the library's web site (www.westath.org). Develops internal network for file sharing and email communication among staff. Backs up local file sharing and email communication on a regular basis. Trains public and staff in the use of information technologies, including the public and staff modules of Innovative Interfaces' Millennium system. Helps develop the library's long-range technology plan. Provides assistance to library patrons of all ages in location and use of library materials, resources and facilities. Selects library materials for purchase including non-fiction and reference resources in both print and electronic formats. Supervises special projects and performs other duties as assigned. Represents the library at consortium, regional and state professional meetings. SALARY: $47,500 - $50,000 with full benefits package.
