Director of Information Services - Mitchell College

Director of Information Services - Mitchell College invites applications for the position of Director of Information Services. The Director, who reports to the Vice President for Library and Information Technology Services/Chief Information Officer, will play a critical leadership role within a blended organization and is responsible for the direction and vision of all aspects of a dynamic and developing information services environment, including outsourced computing and network operations and applications support, instructional technology, collection management and web services, and telecommunications; for providing leadership in the formation of basic service philosophies, policies, and the development of short and long range goals; and for setting directions related to the advancement of technology planning in support of the institutional mission and in synchronization with strategic planning initiatives. This individual works closely with the Director of Information Resources and Curriculum Support in the interests of maximizing the potential of a merged Library and Information Technology Services operation for the development of integrated consulting services, information literacy initiatives, instructional design support, web page development, and other collaborative efforts. The Director works in partnership with other key leaders in the administration and the faculty to enhance the effectiveness of staff and faculty in fulfilling the educational mission of the College by exploring new ways to employ technology to improve business practices, teaching practices, and the overall student living/learning experience. The ideal candidate will be an agent of change; will possess dynamic leadership and motivational abilities; and will have a record of steadily developing leadership experience in an academic environment with demonstrated skills in budgeting and cost containment, project management, security and identity management, disaster recovery and business continuity, staff development, and team-building. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to service and collaborative and creative problem solving, coupled with a capacity to communicate and work productively and collegially with all campus constituencies. The ability to develop a vision for information technology, and to advance the computing and communications objectives of the College in a highly cost-effective manner is essential. Equally necessary is a firm commitment to supporting the successful evolution of Library and Information Technology Services to a seamless service organization. Candidates must be comfortable in a small, student centered college setting. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree, five years of experience, preferably related to computing and instructional technology services in higher education, including two to three years supervisory/management experience in a technology support or instructional technology computing environment, or a comparable combination of education and experience. An advanced degree is preferred. This position requires a demonstrated technical background in desktop hardware, operating systems (Windows, Mac OS) and applications (e.g., MS Office suite, SQL, Adobe CS), as well as a practical understanding of networking and applications programming concepts and practices. Other qualifications are: knowledge of emerging and existing information systems and technology; demonstrated experience in coordinating the development, support, and implementation of information systems and technology; and demonstrated success in management of personnel and budgets. Should possess a broad understanding of resources, trends and issues in academic information services, a vision of the role of library and information technology services in higher education, and should be prepared to lend these insights to an evolving merged library and information services organization in support of the mission of the College.
