The Connecticut State Library (CSL), has (1) available opportunity for a Librarian 1 - State Library within the Cataloging Unit, at the State Library's main facility in Hartford. The Cataloging Unit provides high quality original and derivative cataloging records in support of these services and regularly contributes holdings to authoritative international databases through its participation in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) as administered by the Library of Congress.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, First Shift. For the initial test period, work will be in the office Monday-Thursday, and remote telework on Friday. After the test period, work will be half in-office, and half telework. Alternative Work Schedule (“flextime”) will be available after the test period.
THE ROLE: The Cataloging Unit is responsible for processing and labeling print and microfilm materials. The Connecticut State Library participates in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Library Consortium, which uses the ExLibris Alma library management software and Primo patron online catalog and discovery platform. Under the general supervision of the Unit Head, Cataloging, and in collaboration with other members of the Unit, the Librarian 1 position is responsible for creating and maintaining a catalog of the Library’s collection in order to describe the Library’s holdings, and to provide accurate access for the public, with a specialty in original and copy cataloging of official publications of the United States Government as provided through the Federal Depository Library Program, and in original cataloging of Connecticut Network (CT·N) video presentations. Other original and advanced copy cataloging assignments may include historical, legal, and cartographic materials. The Librarian 1 will serve as backup to the Cataloging Unit Library Technician for physical processing and labeling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE: A Master's degree in library science or information science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) cataloging system. Experience using the ExLibris library management system. Experience cataloging or creating inventory for government documents. Experience cataloging or creating inventory for material in video or cartographic formats.
