Children’s Librarian (Full Time) - East Hampton Public Library

The East Hampton Public Library seeks a dynamic, friendly, and forward-thinking Children’s Librarian who can lead our growing Children’s department. The ideal candidate will create positive library experiences by providing reference, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance to children and caregivers; design, plan and implement educational programming to children under the age of 12; and build relationships with youth and their families to promote and nurture pre-reading and reading skills. This person will develop and grow existing partnerships with local schools and community groups to promote and support services that meet the current and emerging needs of the community and the Library; develop, analyze and maintain collections appropriate for diverse populations; supervise and lead paraprofessional staff; and communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with both staff and the public.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters of Library Science Degree from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's Degree supplemented by graduate level courses which will lead to the Master of Library Science Degree within two years of employment, as well as two years of relevant experience working with children. This person should have a strong knowledge of children’s literature, children’s programming and child development, excellent customer service skills, strong communication and supervisory abilities, the ability to work with a diverse group of people, the ability to use a wide variety of technology, a positive attitude, and will be passionate about the work they do and the community they work in. This is a full-time position with a benefit package and starting hourly rate of $30.89. One evening per week and Saturdays on a rotating schedule are required. May also be asked to assist in other departments within the library.
