Position Definition: This position works under the direct supervision of the department supervisor using established policies and procedures to provide library services for patrons in the Adult Services department. Duties include collection maintenance; reference and reader’s advisory; technical support using library electronic resources; explanation of basic library functions, services and resources; providing referral services to patrons using in person and by email and telephone; remaining abreast of Adult Services trends and development, implementation and promotion of a variety of programs for a culturally and financially diverse community. This position requires working some evenings and weekends.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of professional library methods, reference resources and practices; knowledge of adult titles, authors and readers interests; ability to follow and enforce library policies and procedures; ability to work independently with minimum supervision; ability to prioritize assigned duties and reporting accomplished tasks to supervisor; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally and courteously with a diverse population; effective written and verbal communication skills; strong planning, time management, organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written expression; strong planning, time management, organizational skills; strong planning, time management, organizational skills; proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and Mac; proficiency with virtual meeting tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams; expertise using resource sharing software and productivity tools; ability to maintain confidentiality of library users’ records; skill in the operation of computer systems; skill in applying library research methods and practices; ability to collaborate with local agencies; knowledge of and experience with PCs, LANs, electronic devices and the Internet.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science, and practical experience in adult services, internship included, are required. Experience with creating promotional materials, flyers, press releases email newsletters and website graphic are a plus.
SALARY: Beginning pay rate $26.29/hr
BENEFITS: This position is not eligible for benefits.
