JOB SUMMARY: The UConn Library seeks an Access Services Associate to
provide excellent customer service at the Homer Babbidge Library’s
primary customer service point, the Information Desk (iDesk). The Access
Services Associate helps to create a culture of hospitality for the
UConn Library community, including students, faculty, staff, and members
of the public. The successful candidate will provide coverage for the
iDesk on evenings and weekends, providing a consistent and positive user
experience, and overseeing the work of iDesk student employees. As an
active member of the Academic Engagement area’s Access Services unit,
and guided by our Strategic Framework of Connect, Empower, and Engage,
the successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the
Library through collaboration with colleagues and a proactive approach
to supporting and coordinating user-focused services.
Along
with all UConn Library personnel, the successful candidate will make a
positive contribution to a culture of inclusion and respect in all
interactions within the Library and across the University and will
exemplify the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, curiosity and
inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun. This position is
supervised by the Head of Access Services.
Spring and Fall Semester Hours: Saturday: 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm; Sunday through Wednesday: 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
Summer Session Hours: Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; Monday through Wednesday: 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Winter Session Hours: Monday through Friday: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree. Strong customer service
skills and a demonstrated commitment to customer service. Demonstrated
understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to provide excellent student
supervision. Strong collaboration, oral and written communication,
interpersonal, and creative and flexible problem solving skills.
Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills. Demonstrated
ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate record keeping.
Demonstrated willingness to develop new skills and knowledge.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for Appointment as a Library Assistant
2: Minimum of three years related professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: For Both Levels: Previous experience working
in an academic library. Knowledge of library systems, preferably the Ex
Libris Alma Integrated Library System and Springshare. Demonstrated
proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products. Demonstrated
ability to instruct and train individuals and groups.
