Library Clerk, Part-Time – Cheshire Public Library, CT

Due to a retirement and internal promotion, the Town of Cheshire seeks candidates for two 15 hour Library Clerk (L-1) positions in our Materials Management Department. Cheshire (pop. 29,330) is a vibrant community located in the heart of Connecticut (2 hours to New York or Boston) and is well-known for its excellent education system and exceptional quality of life.
     Join a dynamic team of customer service professionals who are dedicated to ensuring library patrons have a positive and welcoming experience when they visit. This front line position is primarily responsible for checking in and shelving materials, checking materials out to patrons and assisting them with their accounts, registering patrons for library cards, answering basic questions about library services, assessing patron’s needs and referring them to the appropriate staff for help, and assisting with the set up for library programs. The ideal candidate should have solid customer service skills and must be able to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly and courteous manner while juggling multiple priorities. A familiarity with basic computer applications is necessary. Experience working in a library is a plus but not required. This position includes some physically challenging work including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods. A high school diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
     The starting minimum hourly rate is $15.50/hour with a 15 hour work week that includes evenings and weekends.
