Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Principal, to work collaboratively
with school administration, teachers, and staff to develop and
administer a library program that supports the curriculum; provides
instructional leadership for the teaching of information literacy
skills; develops and maintains a library collection rich in both print
and digital resources; and manages the library as a flexible, multi-task
learning environment.
Essential Functions:
Assesses needs and plans library services for the Shepaug Valley School
Library. Manages acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, and
inventory of resources. Develops, justifies and administers the budget
for the Shepaug Valley School Library. Participates in the hiring of
library staff. Trains and supervises library media clerical staff and
volunteers. Maintains liaison with public libraries in the region.
Creates a library environment that is conducive to learning. Teaches
classes, as assigned, that focus on the joys of reading and information
literacy skills. Collaborates with content-area teachers to provide
information literacy lessons. Assists content-area teachers in
identifying and procuring materials for differentiated instruction, such
as audiobooks, audiovisual materials, graphic novels, and high-low
reading materials. Provides bibliographies and reading lists as
requested. Maintains a current professional library that focuses on
instructional strategies, Common Core State Standards, research on the
adolescent brain, computer technologies and other research that supports
faculty professional development activities. Provides reader advisory
services to students in grades 6 through 12. Organizes and maintains the
Shepaug School Library as a functional, attractive, safe, and orderly
environment for optimal use by students, faculty, staff and community
organizations.
