Cheshire Academy seeks a full-time faculty Librarian for the upcoming 2022-23 academic year.
The Cheshire Academy Library is a dynamic space that students and
faculty use in a variety of ways. The Library’s mission is to assist in
effectively utilizing and assessing ideas, information resources, and
technology while also creating community engagement and promoting
life-long learning and information literacy. The Library bolsters
students’ confidence, giving them a space to develop character and
teaching them to use resources that enable their critical thinking
skills. The Library celebrates the diversity of our community and helps
foster global citizenship. The Library is committed to providing diverse
and equitable viewpoints in both the physical and digital collections.
A Cheshire Academy Librarian understands the mission and values of
Library and the wider school community and works with students and
faculty daily. This position is supervised by the Director of Library
Services.
Specific duties include: Help operate
the day-to-day services of the library through circulation, research
assistance, and technology support to students and faculty. Maintain a
variety of study environments while also supporting community engagement
and promoting positive relationships. Teach information and digital
literacy to students and faculty, both independently and in support of
course projects and the broader curriculum. Understand the use of
citations and be able to teach students to use APA, MLA, and Chicago
citation styles. Empower students to become inquirers, critical
thinkers, and skillful and ethical researchers. Participate in special
school activities and events. Work in the Library on some weekends or
weekday evenings during the academic year, as needed in support of the
residential program. Work with the Director of Library Services to
review and improve on programs and services. Other duties as assigned by
the Director of Library Services.
Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's
degree in Library Science or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred
(candidates currently enrolled in an accredited MLIS program will also
be considered). Previous library instruction and/or classroom teaching
experience preferred. Strong technology skills and experience, including
familiarity with Apple and Windows operating system environments and
Microsoft and Adobe products, and a willingness to experiment with new
technologies in support of the curriculum. Experience using research
databases, as well as NoodleTools or similar citation software. Strong
interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop positive,
inclusive working relationships with students and faculty. A good sense
of humor and enjoyment of working with young people.
Other responsibilities include:
Advising; Coaching for 2 out of 3 seasons and/or leading
extra-curricular activities; Weekend team responsibilities;
Residential/dormitory duties (if you are a residential faculty member);
Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an CT “A”
endorsement for purposes of transporting students.
School provided housing is not guaranteed for the academic year of 2022-2023.
