Director of Library Services - Hartford
International University for Religion and Peace, a 187-year-old

Hartford International is in the midst of an exciting process of
strategic change: redesigned academic programs, new partnerships, and
emerging centers. In 2021, we changed our name from Hartford Seminary to
Hartford International University for Religion and Peace (HIU) to
better represent our longstanding mission as a place that builds
community and works toward peace through interreligious understanding.
Several exciting projects are beginning at the Library, including the
development of a pastoral resource center for our new Howard Thurman
Center and a project to review and digitize select archival materials.
Our unique collection of materials related to the Arabian Nights fables
is one of the most extensive in the world, and is poised for the
development of events, collaborations, and digitization activities to
promote scholarly access.
Position Overview:
The Director of Library Services is responsible for the overall
administration and operation of the Library, reporting to the Dean, and
serves as the primary professional librarian at HIU. In-person work is
required with some flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Support faculty and students in research and learning. Collection
development, ongoing and for new areas such as the pastoral resource
center. Develop programming to highlight unique collections. Plan and
direct archival activities. Manage library staff and budget. Maintain
relationships and contracts with associations and vendors.
Qualifications:
MLS or equivalent – spring 2022 candidates will be considered.
Experience (pre- or post-degree) working in an academic library,
willingness to participate in all aspects of librarianship. Training or
experience in religious studies preferred.
