Library Director - Scoville Memorial Library, Salisbury. The Trustees of the Scoville Memorial Library (SML) are seeking a Library Director. The current Director will retire on December 31, 2021 after almost 20 years of service. The Library is a vibrant community center serving a town of nearly 4,000; it is the busiest library in Connecticut among towns with a population of 5,000 or less. It has an annual budget of approximately $460,000.
     The job of Library Director is a full-time, on-site position. The salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 and is commensurate with experience.
     We are looking for a dynamic, creative leader with excellent communication and organizational skills who is passionate about books, reading and connecting with the community. He or she will need to wear many hats. The Library Director: is an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees working closely with Board members and assisting in fund raising efforts; is skilled at communicating with a variety of audiences; manages the collection and oversees extensive programming; supervises a staff of 7 full and part time employees; creates and manages the budget; stays current on emerging technologies and their application to libraries; is an effective representative of the Library within the community; is in touch with the ways in which libraries are evolving to serve their changing communities; oversees vendor relationships; coordinates maintenance of an historic building.
     Minimum Required Qualifications: Prior professional experience in a library. Meaningful experience at a managerial level.
     Preferred Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS), a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management or a Master’s Degree in a related field.

     Located in Salisbury, CT, SML traces its origin to 1771 and is the first library in the U.S. to have received public tax dollars. The current Library building was built in 1894 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Subsequent interior and exterior renovations have modernized the Library and maintained it in excellent repair. SML is a non-profit, Association library which receives its funding from community fund-raising, the town and its endowment.
