Children’s Librarian - The
Stafford Library is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Children’s
Librarian. The Children’s Librarian is in charge of the planning and
delivery of children’s services in cooperation with our Program
Coordinator and other staff members. Major duties include purchasing
children’s books and materials, planning and performing story times for
children from birth to grade five, planning and carrying out children’s
programs, evaluating and booking children’s program providers,
performing children’s readers advisory service, and promoting the
library through outreach services to schools, the Family Resource
Center, and other community partners. In addition, the Children’s
Librarian is required to work shifts at the circulation desk assisting
patrons of all ages.
The successful applicant will have a
genuine fondness for children, have extensive and up-to-date knowledge
of children’s literature and books in general, have extensive knowledge
of child development, be knowledgeable in best practices and current
trends in children’s librarianship, have excellent computer skills,
have the ability to work within a budget, possess a strong commitment to
customer service, have the ability to work with other staff members as
well as the public, have the ability to communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing, and have the ability to work independently and
efficiently.
Prior library experience in children’s services
required, MLS or MLS candidate required. 35 hours per week Monday
through Saturday including some evenings. Salary range $21.39- 26.74 per
