Librarian 2 - Connecticut State Library. This
Librarian 2 position will be a member of the library's Access Services
division. The Access Services division assists members of the public and
government agencies through three specialized reference units:
Government Information, History & Genealogy, and Law &
Legislative reference. As the entry point to materials placed in the
State Librarian's care, these reference units work closely with the
library's Collection Services division and with the State Archives to
acquire and provide access to state agency reports, town government
reports, and current and historical Connecticut newspapers. The library
provides a variety of library, information, archival, public records,
and administrative services to all three branches of State government;
town governments and public libraries throughout the state; students,
researchers, and members of the public. The State Library is a Regional
Federal Depository Library, Connecticut Documents Depository Library,
and a municipal document resource center.
Principal duties of
this position will focus on organizing and maintaining the Connecticut
municipal government collection, which includes town annual reports,
ordinances, and regulations. The position will also participate in
developing indices for state agency material acquired in both paper and
digital formats. Duties may include preparing inventories, cataloging,
and establishing policies and procedures for the town document
collection as well as facilitating project communications with
Collection Services and Archives divisions. In addition, the candidate
will assist in staffing reference desks in the Government and the
History & Genealogy sections. The candidate should be comfortable
working with a variety of computer systems and be willing to adapt to
changing library systems and environment. The candidate may also
participate in creating informational tools such as web pages and
LibGuides.
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday
through Friday, 8:30 – 5pm position with rotating Saturdays. Saturday
hours are 9:00 - 2:00pm, schedule adjusted for Saturday rotation. The
position is located at 231 Capitol Avenue, Hartford CT.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of Connecticut state and municipal
government; Experience working with government publications; Experience
providing reference service to diverse patron groups; Experience with
library-related technology; Experience working across multiple library
disciplines.
