Librarian III - Silas Bronson Library, City of Waterbury. Exam No. 2238. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Performs supervisory work in any division of the Library; May serve as
head of one of the smaller divisions; Does advance reference, reader’s
advisory and /or technical service work. Employee is responsible for the
full operation of a smaller division or assists the head in a larger
division; Supervises staff or assists division head in supervising
staff; Work is performed under the general direction of a Division head
or the Library Director. Plans, organizes and supervises activities of
the division to which assigned; Makes work schedules for division
assistants and Library Pages; Assists patrons with locating books and
related materials; Assists patrons in the selection of books in reader’s
advisory capacity; Conducts research required to answer reference
questions; assembles materials for research projects as required;
instructs students in the use of the card catalog and reference tools;
Keeps circulation and other statistics; Takes inventories; Makes
reports; Selects books and related materials for purchases within the
divisional budget; Reads periodical and other reviews of books and
related materials especially those of the subject field of the division
to which assigned; Keeps informed about new books, current trends, new
professional techniques; reads professional literature, especially that
of the subject field to which assigned; Attends professional
conferences; Performs certain highly specialized operations that may be
required in a particular subject field; Does related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of
professional library science and administration; Demonstrated ability to
develop work programs and plan and supervise the work of others;
Ability to organize and conduct training programs for Librarians;
Ability to speak and write effectively; Ability to teach subordinate
staff and the public all aspects of current library technologies.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters
Degree in Library Science and two (2) years professional Librarian
experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees
appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical
strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and
must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties
of the class. A physical examination may be required.
SALARY: $27.29 - $36.33/hr. (NOTE: New hires start at the beginning of the range).
