Teen Services Manager - Hartford Public Library. Full Time Non-Union. The Teen Services Manager is responsible for the
successful development and delivery of services and programs to teens
and young adults (13 years to 19 years) throughout the library that
support the educational, job and career, social and emotional
objectives/needs of the teen population. With considerable independent
judgment, discretion, and initiative, this position develops plans, and
implements system-wide services and activities to meet present and
anticipated community needs. Designs and executes the strategic
initiatives to address needs, coordinate collection development and
selection of materials and ensures effective communication with other
departments. The incumbent works closely with the System-wide Youth and
Family Services Manager to ensure a robust continuum of service to youth
from birth to 19 years old.
REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in Library Science, Education,
Counseling, Social Work, Human Development and Family Studies or an
equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities. One to three years of
supervisory experience including the performance managment of staff
required. Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible leadership
experience, with an emphasis on teen services and or digital learning.
Minimum of three-year experience in working for and with young adults
(ages 13 to 19). Must have experience with identifying, preparing and
managing federal and/or state grants. Knowledge of educational and
Career Pathways. Solid knowledge of trends in print and digital library
resources for teens. Experience interfacing with public school personnel
and institutions of higher education. Experience using social media
technology (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) and a solid working
knowledge of interactive programs for services for teens (i.e. digital
photography, music production, podcasting, etc.). Solid working
knowledge of all MS Office suite. Strong commitment to consistent,
excellent customer service to a diverse population. Ability to work
independently and in a team environment. Solid written and verbal
communication, listening, organizational and priority setting skills.
PREFERRED: Previous Library Experience Desirable. Second Language Preferred. Experience working in a union environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to continuously bend,
twist, stoop, reach and pull. Ability to keep composure in everyday,
potentially stressful situations. Ability to meet flexible work
schedule, including evenings and weekends. Able to walk, sit and stand
for extended periods of time. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral
vision, depth reception, and ability to adjust focus. Lifting of
moderate to heavy weight material up to 50 lbs.
