Youth Services Librarian - The East Granby Public Library is
seeking an energetic, creative, dynamic and forward-thinking Youth
Services Librarian. The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for the
operation of the Children and Young Adult Departments, making library
services available to children and families both in and out of the
library. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest and love of
children, communicate well with everyone, and encompass a
forward-thinking and innovative approach to librarianship.
Responsibilities: Providing leadership and direction to the
Children’s and YA departments. Design, plan and implement educational
and innovative programming for children from birth to 17 years old,
including weekly storytimes for the younger age groups. Build
relationships with youth and their families to promote and nurture
pre-reading and reading skills. Interact with school staff and the
community to promote the library. Develop, analyze and maintain
collections for children and their parents. Prepare reports for the
library director. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives
with staff and public. Perform duties in other library departments and
participate in library special group projects as needed. Assist and
instruct patrons in using library services, equipment and facilities.
Qualifications: Four year college degree and direct experience
working with children in an educational setting. A strong background in
children’s literature, best practices in early literacy children’s
programming and knowledge of early childhood development. Strong
abilities to interpret, communicate and present information both orally
and in writing. The ability to thrive in an environment with constant
public interaction. A positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills
and the ability to work with a diverse group of people. The ability to
use a wide variety of technology including email, MS Office Suite,
graphics design and databases.
This is a 25 hour a week position with a minimum starting salary of
$18/hour, commensurate with experience. Hours will include two
Saturdays and one evening a month.
