Children/Teen Librarian - Bristol Public Library

Children/Teen Librarian - Bristol Public Library. Summary: Plans, coordinates, manages and conducts library activities and programs for children and teens. Assists in finding reading materials and information, and use of library services and facilities. Participates in selection of materials. Provides individual and group instruction including use of reference sources and other resources for research and study projects. Makes frequent contacts with schools, other libraries, social service agencies, civic organizations and Bristol Youth Services Dept. Contributes information and publicizes teen services through newspapers, posters, Library Website, and other social media platforms. Assists with researching for supplementary funding to enhance library services, including state and federal grants. Prepares statistical reports. Attends staff meetings and participates in regional and statewide library associations.
     Type/Schedule: Full-time position, working 37.50 hours per week. September through June, work Monday through Thursday, and alternate Fridays and Saturdays; for the months of July and August, work Monday through Friday.
     Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from ALA accredited library school with 1 year experience working in a library setting with children and young adults; or Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university with 3 years of experience. Storytelling abilities required. Broad and current knowledge of children's and young adult literature, audio and visual materials and electronic resources. A broad knowledge of the intellectual, emotional, psychological and physical development of children and adolescents is essential. Requires effective written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, and good reference skills. Computer skills that include intermediate knowledge of Database, Spreadsheet, Word, Design, and Internet software; and Google applications.
     Benefits include Defined Benefit Pension Plan, generous time off & medical/vision/dental/life insurance package. Salary: $20.65/hourly, increase to $22.57/hr.@ 6 months anniversary, and to $22.93/hr.@ 1 year.
