EXAMPLES OR WORK: (Illustrative Only)
Plans and administers the library program and supervises the library staff; Submits recommendations on library services to the Library Board; Carries out policy decisions as established by the Library Board, and acquaints the Library Board with special problems; Interprets objectives
of the library; plans, organizes and coordinates activities; Reviews
special library programs and projects; Assigns and reviews work of all
employees through department and division heads Makes recommendations
for assignments, and transfers of employees in accordance with
established procedures; Maintains employee discipline and morale;
Conducts staff meetings; Prepares preliminary budget estimates
including the Bronson Fund with assistance from the Library Board;
Administers the budget of the Library; Reviews and approves library
expenditures and purchases including weekly salary payments, books and
related materials, supplies, equipment, services, etc.; Prepares and
presents reports; Supervises library publicity; Keeps informed of
current trends and new professional techniques in the library field;
Attends professional meeting; Assures that library buildings are
properly maintained and necessary repairs are made; Performs other
related duties as required.
REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of current
management and leadership best practices, and the ability to apply these
to the Library; Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with the Library Board, City and State Officials, the
Library’s senior management team, other library staff, community
officials, and the public; Ability to identify and discuss issues and
challenges facing the Library, and to present and discuss various
viewpoints and options in an effort to strategize solutions; Ability to
make realistic budget proposals, to operate within established budgetary
guidelines; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing; Ability to manage and supervise library staff; Broad
understanding and ability to oversee administration of information
technology and to plan for the implementation of new technologies as
appropriate; Ability to develop work‐related goals and objectives;
Ability to understand and support the fundamental principles of library
services, such as offering open access to library materials in any
format for people of all ages; providing materials representing as many
points of view as possible; and protecting a customer’s right to privacy
in dealings with the library and with respect to records maintained by
the Library; Ability to exercise sound judgment.
SALARY: $80,000 ~ $90,000 per year

ORDER TO BE CONSIDERD FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST INDICATE ON YOUR
APPLICATION THAT YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE: Five years’
experience leading or managing a public access facility. Bachelor’s
degree in the field of library science, liberal arts, business
administration or related field. Master’s degree in business
administration or library science preferred. SPECIAL NOTE: Three (3)
year contract provision by City Charter.
SPECIAL
REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and
a good driving record. In order to verify possession of the
appropriate Driver’s License and good driving history, applicants will
now be required to provide the H.R. Office with a Driving History Report
that is less than 30 days old. Only reports generated by the Department
of Motor Vehicle will be accepted. This information will be
specifically requested of the applicants at the time that a conditional
offer is made. In the event that a report is not supplied within (7)
seven days or the H.R. Director deems your driving history to be poor,
the conditional offer may be rescinded. APPEAL PROCESS: An
applicant may appeal a notice of rejection of his/her application to the
Civil Service Commission within seven (7) days of receipt of such
notice. The Parts and Weights for this examination will be determined
prior to conducting the exam. Individuals appointed shall be required
to serve a working test period which will be, in effect, the final phase
