Educational Assistant (Embedded Librarian) - (12 Month, Part-time, Perkins Grant Funded) ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: September 2012. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Manchester Community College Library, Manchester Connecticut, is seeking a library science graduate student currently enrolled in an ALA accredited MLS or MLIS program for a position as an embedded librarian. A demonstrated understanding of the mission of the community college and a demonstrated ability to respond to and work with multiple constituencies and involvement in support of a culturally and ethnically diverse population are essential. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position. RESPONSIBILITIES: The embedded librarian works collaboratively with faculty to assist students in online (through Blackboard Learn) and hybrid science courses, providing research assistance and other library services in person and virtually. Responsibilities include: working with students to locate scholarly articles in subscription online databases, locating books and other materials, assisting students with proper citation formatting and avoiding plagiarism, formulating search strategies, and evaluating research materials. The embedded librarian will also be responsible for monitoring online research discussions and questions, resolving technical difficulties in accessing online materials, and will inform students of all new library services. The embedded librarian will also be responsible for designing LibGuides online subject guides for various disciplines. Other duties include providing on ground research assistance to students, faculty and staff in the MCC Library. MINIMUM SALARY: $24.94 per hour; up to 15 hours per week.
