Head of Reference Services - Fairfield Public Library

Head of Reference Services - The Fairfield Public Library is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head of Reference Services. The candidate for this position will be one of the primary catalysts for delivering outstanding customer service while inspiring the reference staff and ensuring the delivery of 21st century reference service. The ability to introduce new ideas and emerging technologies to the library is vital for this position. An understanding that library service extends beyond the physical plant and a willingness to develop strong relationships through community outreach is essential. Responsibilities include: leading the reference team at Main and Branch Library; serving on the public service desk; management of a changing reference collection; adult programming including training and cultural offerings; management of computer lab and study rooms; and effective budgeting of staff and collections. The candidate must have 5 years of supervisory experience acknowledging the changing library environment, deep knowledge of collection development, demonstrated interest and willingness to embrace emerging technologies, problem-solving capabilities, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage staffing and collection budgets. Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from American Library Association accredited university. Five years of supervisory experience. Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience. This is a 35 hour per week position, one evening until 9:00pm and approximately one Saturday a month. Starting salary: $68,837.
