Chief Library Services Officer - The Hartford Public Library, an award-winning urban public library system, is seeking an experienced professional librarian for the position of Chief Library Services Officer reporting to the Library's newly appointed CEO. This number two position will be responsible for directing and leading the activities of the library including planning, development, implementation and evaluation of public services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: budget, staff (up to 95 employees), collection development, technical services, programs and services, and interaction with the Board of Directors. In addition, the incumbent will supervise and evaluate department heads of the Library departments (Youth Services, Collection Services, Adult and Branch Services and the CT Center for the Book). As a member of senior management, the incumbent will be actively involved in the overall operations of the Library. The ideal candidate must possess a Master's Degree in Library Science plus 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience as a public librarian preferably in an urban setting. You must possess a minimum of 5 years leadership/supervisory experience in a library. A strong understanding of urban communities and programs is required. A mastery of the Spanish language is helpful. Strong strategic thinking, program management, fiscal budget management, sound administration and technology solutions and leadership/collaborative skills complete the wining combination. You must possess a passion for the field, high energy and integrity, a strong work ethic and a can-do approach to work. For the right candidate, this position will pay up to $100K based on your experience with a possible subsidy for relocation.
