General Statement of Duties:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Manages the division of the Library responsible for the selection, acquisition/deacquisition, licensing/contracting, cataloging, and processing of library materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the selection, acquisition/deacquisition, cataloging, and processing of library materials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards and applications for all formats, including working knowledge of AACR2R, LCR1 and next generation cataloging standards (RDA, FRBR), LC subject headings, Dewey classification schemes, authority and subject heading systems, MARC formats, and database management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, issues and methods of information access relating to library resources as well as emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Library-related technology applications, such as integrated library systems (ILS), acquisition software, collection management tools and electronic information systems.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to create cost effective solutions within a team setting and set realistic goals  and priorities within budgetary constraints.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Examination: 100% Training & Experience Assessment The examination to determine a candidate's eligibility for the position will be a Training and Experience Assessment.   • Provides strategic direction for the Library’s print and non-print/digital collections.
  • Leads a service-focused team in the selection, acquisition/deacquisition, licensing/contracting, cataloging and processing of library materials in all selected languages and formats.
  • Manages the cataloging and organization of library materials and metadata production, ensuring easy access by library users to resources in all formats.
  • Serves on trustee committees as assigned.
  • Oversees library operations in the absence of the Library Director and Deputy Director as assigned.
  • Supervises and directs staff activities to achieve division goals.
  • Evaluates operations, sets benchmarks and implements efficiencies in staffing, collections, materials handling or use of automated equipment or software.
  • Prepares and presents reports and statistical analyses.
  • Develops and applies metadata standards and schema and employs new web services technologies to improve the user experience.
  • Supervises the cataloging and classification of library materials in all selected languages and all formats based on national standards, including original cataloging.
  • Participates in library-wide initiatives such as collection management, assessment and strategic planning.
  • Prepares budget requests for the division and monitors the appropriate expenditure of funds throughout the year.
  • Negotiates and executes the implementation of contracts and oversees vendors.
  • Keeps current with library practices relating to resource management, information resources, operational and personnel management trends, and library-related technology developments.
  • Supports Town policies and philosophies.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Some evening and weekend/alternate hours required.
