Job description: The Head of Circulation is a full-time position involving a combination of management of the circulation staff, assistance to the public in the direct range of circulation, and overall supervision of all circulation duties. Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating an active circulation program to meet the needs and wants of the general population for our own and surrounding communities. This position spends the greatest amount of time managing the library collection, serving patrons and the public, and supervising the circulation staff while demonstrating a strong commitment to excellent customer service and attention to detail.
Hours/Salary: : This is a 35-hour per week, full-time position (with varied hours, including evenings
and weekends.) It is a Wage Grade 9, hourly position under the collective bargaining agreement between the Town of Old Saybrook and Local 1303-278 of council #4 (AFSCME)
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree with relevant course work in library science or
ALA Accredited MLS or MLIS or equivalent. Three years of progressively responsible experience in public libraries, including management and supervision of staff, preferably in the circulation department. Experience in providing direct customer service to various populations. Must be flexible to include evenings and weekends. A valid State of CT Driver’s License is required.
