Yale Library seeks a knowledgeable and resourceful Metadata Quality and Cataloging Librarian to join the Catalog Management Unit (CMU) within the Resource Discovery Services department. Reporting to the CMU Manager, the Metadata Quality and Cataloging Librarian will perform quality assurance, catalog data remediation, workflow automation, and database reporting. The successful candidate will contribute to Yale Library committees and task forces, especially as these relate to the needs of catalog management practices. The incumbent will provide expertise on cataloging standards – especially in reconciling catalog data across legacy, current, and emerging standards – and assist in coordinating special projects such as library transfers and collection reclassification. The incumbent will provide training and outreach to Yale Library units outside of Technical Services to foster collaboration and unification of workflows. They will assist in quality assessment of CMU staff work and identify areas of improvement. Following initial onboarding period, this position will be 4 days on-site, 1 day remote.

Required Education and Experience: 1. Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited library school. In selective cases a graduate degree in a related subject field may be substituted. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of current national cataloging/metadata content and structural standards. Knowledge of subject analysis and classification systems. 3. If supervision of professional and/or support staff is a principal responsibility, supervisory experience is required. 4. Experience designing projects and bringing them to conclusion in a timely fashion. 5. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications; analytical ability; accuracy and attention to detail. 6. Ability to initiate and adapt to change. 7. Experience working collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations. 8. Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment.
Required Skills/Abilities: (1) Demonstrated ability with the use of library management systems. Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and familiarity with batch-load processing tools such as MarcEdit. (5) Knowledge of RDA, LC-PCC PS, MARC, LCSH, LCC, and PCC standards, and good understanding of authority control. Familiarity with current trends and best practices in cataloging and metadata services, and developments in metadata (Linked data, BIBFRAME, etc.)
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience working with the Ex Libris Alma system. Experience with authority control processes. Experience with SQL, database systems, and scripting languages. Experience working with current and emerging standards and tools, e.g., linked data and generative AI. Hands-on experience with controlled vocabularies, thesauri, taxonomies, etc.
