Collection Strategist, Science and Social Science - Yale University Library

Yale University Library seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking professional to serve as Collection Strategist for Science and Social Science. The successful candidate will support, assess, and strategically develop and manage the science and social science collections. They will work closely with librarians at the Marx Science and Social Science Library and in the Department of Computational Methods and Data to ensure that the collections in these areas meet the university's teaching, learning, and research missions. The Collection Strategist for Science and Social Science is a member of the Scholarly Communication and Collection Strategy department.

Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited Library school and three years of related experience. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for an MLS.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated ability in collection development and knowledge of scholarly publishing practices and trends relevant to the sciences and social sciences.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets. Demonstrated ability to design and manage projects, bringing them to a successful conclusion.
  3. Familiarity with the acquisition and licensing of science and social science datasets.
  4. Excellent analytical skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Excel. Experience using quantitative and/or qualitative data to inform decision-making.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational units. Experience providing training and creating documentation. Experience with vendor relations and communications.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience reading, interpreting, and negotiating license agreements. Bachelor’s or advanced degree in the social sciences or sciences or experience working with social science and science collections.
