New Canaan Library is seeking a friendly, energetic, customer-service oriented person to join our Family Services Department as a part-time Library Assistant in our new library building. The Library Assistant directly assists library patrons of all ages at the children’s and teen service desks and helps them to access materials and use library services. Duties include helping patrons to locate items within the library, delivering excellent readers’ advisory for children, teens, and families, assisting with checking out materials, and issuing library cards, as well as tasks supporting the library’s functions including shelving, answering phones and emails, program check-in, and other relevant duties as assigned by the Manager of Family Services. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children/teens ages birth to eighteen and knowledge of children’s/young adult literature. This non-exempt, part-time position of up to 15 hours/week requires regular weekend and evening shifts.
