Salary: 100,000 - 120,000 per year

Overview: The New Britain Public Library (NBPL) Board of Trustees is seeking an experienced leader with strong high-level executive experience to take a successful nonprofit public institution to the next level.
The candidate of choice is a forward-thinking and engaging leader who is adept at planning and managing library operations under the general direction and governance of the Board of Trustees. The ideal applicant has strong communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to foster a staff culture of mutual respect and support.

About the Position: The Library Director is responsible for directing, planning, organizing and coordinating all aspects of public library service and the work of the Library and staff in conformity with the policies approved by the NBPL Board of Trustees, and Federal and/or State regulations.
The Library Director manages the use of library resources, including purchasing, annual and capital budgeting, facilities management, planning, staffing, and evaluating programs and services. The Director also develops and recommends policies to the Board of Trustees; implements policies as they are adopted and ensures adherence; manages a staff of 50+ employees in collaboration with the Business Manager and Department Heads; pursues public relations opportunities; oversees collection development; seeks outside funding opportunities; and is responsible for managing the expenditure of funds and associated financial records.
The Library Director serves as a liaison to the Friends of the New Britain Public Library.
Minimum Requirements: A Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of five (5) years' experience in public library administration, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity, with demonstrated experience in ILS, and collection development and management.
