Head of Library Resources and Technology - Canton Public Library


The Canton Public Library, a municipal department of the Town of Canton, is seeking a Head of Library Resources and Technology. This recently-renamed position is responsible for the organization, planning, and operation of library resources, including overseeing collection management, cataloging, and technology implementation and instruction.

Duties of the position include: overseeing selection of library materials for acquisition and withdrawal in the Adult department of the library; performing and/or supervising the cataloging and classification of all library materials; working with town IT staff as well as the Library Connection consortium to troubleshoot technology problems and implement new technology solutions; regular shifts at Reference and/or Circulation desks; maintenance of library website; and working with other library staff to plan programs and services.

The successful candidate will have: excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively; proficient computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology; thorough knowledge and understanding of bibliographic standards and practice; the ability to effectively assist patrons with reference queries and technology help; experience in materials selection for a public library collection; and excellent time-management skills.

Qualified applicants must possess a master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university and at least three years of library experience in reference, acquisitions, and/or technical services. Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, website management in a Wordpress environment is essential. Experience with III’s Sierra ILS is a plus.

The position is full-time, 35 hours per week and will include at least one evening per week and occasional Saturdays. The annual salary range is $57,000-$63,000 depending on experience, with a full municipal benefits package.
