Librarian/Archivist, part-time - Fairfield University


UNIT: DiMenna-Nyselius Library

BASIC FUNCTION: Provides support for the Fairfield University Archives and Special Collections on a variety of ongoing projects related to both back-end management of physical and digital materials as well as public-facing research, instruction and outreach work. Supervises student employees.

UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Physical requirements: mobility; must be able to lift materials off shelf. Requires some evening and weekend hours.

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience with research services in a library or archival setting. Familiarity with primary research, digitization processes, as well as privacy and copyright issues is preferred. Ability to work independently or in a team; knows when to ask questions. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient in handling multiple workflows and projects. Experience with archival description, arrangement, and handling of unique and rare materials is preferred. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

REPORTS TO: University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Respond to both simple and in-depth archival research queries from faculty, staff, students, community members and other researchers. Provide research support for proposals, plans, reports and other administrative documentation for library administration and campus partners. Assist in the appraisal, accession, arrangement and description of physical and born-digital archival collections, as directed. Help with set-up and take-down for Archives and Special Collections tours, instruction sessions, exhibits and other public-facing archival events. Assists in the daily activities of the Archives and Special Collections. Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate.
