Part-time Special Collections Librarian – Hartford International University for Religion and Peace

The Hartford International University Library is seeking a project cataloger/archivist for a 1-year part time position funded by a grant from the Vance Foundation. The main focus will be to catalog the MacDonald Arabian Nights Collection and to assist with other projects in the archives and special collections. The Arabian Nights Collection consists of over 1,000 volumes of the Thousand and One Nights and related works, given to the Hartford International University Library in 1941 by Professor Emeritus Duncan Black Macdonald. The collection includes over 30 languages (other than English), with non-English language materials making up approximately two-thirds of the collection.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library school or equivalent accredited degree. Knowledge of professional cataloging standards. Training in the LC classification system and subject headings, MARC, and OCLC. Previous original cataloging experience essential. Experience with archives and special collections desired. A reading knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or French helpful.

Appointment Term: This is a 20 hour a week grant funded position for one year. Work hours are negotiable.

Starting Salary: $30.00 per hour
