Children’s Services Librarian - Wilton Library

Wilton Library seeks a full-time, energetic, creative professional to be part of a dynamic children’s services team. This position provides a fulfilling opportunity to perform reference and reader’s advisory, participate in collection management, and design and implement programs for birth – age 12 that respond positively to the community’s needs and support the library’s mission. Reporting to the Head of Children’s Library, the Children’s Services Librarian will be involved in all aspects of providing and maintaining excellent resources and services in conjunction with the rest of the Children’s Library team.

Duties and Responsibilities include: Provides reference assistance to children and families, including readers’ advisory, information literacy, and selection and use of library materials and resources. Designs, implements, and evaluates programs for birth through age 12 that respond positively to the community’s needs and support the library’s mission. Participates in designing, planning, and running the Summer Reading Program. Actively participates in collection development and maintenance. Participates in outreach to preschools, public schools, and town locales. Performs other duties as necessary to insure the smooth operation of the Children’s Services Department and the provision of excellent customer service, collections and services.

Skills: A successful candidate must have general knowledge of classic and contemporary children’s literature. Candidates must be able to plan, implement, and evaluate traditional and innovative programs including STEAM. Knowledge of child development a plus. Excellent computer skills are required. Attention to detail and the ability to work well independently and cooperatively with other team members in a creative and vibrant environment is crucial. Excellent customer service skills a must.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school. A minimum of one year working with children in a professional setting a plus. Able to work a flexible schedule that will include evening and weekend hours.
