Librarian - Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport

Level: Community College Professional 18, 12-month, tenure track position.
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Position Summary: The Librarian performs a broad range of professional responsibilities of librarianship in the library or learning resource center of a Community College providing library services to students, faculty and citizens of the communities served by the College. These professional responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum including: reference services; online, original and copy cataloging; inter-library loan management; collection development; circulation management; acquisitions; and teaching students and faculty in the use of such library resources as on-line access to information, bibliographic search, access to print materials and methods of research for academic course materials. In addition, the library relies to an increasing extent on computer-based information technology. Therefore, the Librarian may be assigned to provide professional information technology services.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science together with from one (1) to four (4) years of related experience including up to two (2) years of experience in leading or supervising others; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: Full range of professional librarianship with strong competencies in public services, reference, technical services, collection development. Information technology and information literacy skills. Instruction in effective use of library resources in a higher education environment. Leading and training support staff.

Preferred Qualifications: One (1) or more years of demonstrated experience in information literacy instruction design and teaching in an academic library, including the development and administration of learning assessment tools. One (1) or more years of professional-level archival experience in the following: inventorying records, evaluating items for preservation concerns, entering archival information into ArchivesSpace, and assisting in the development of finding aids. Experience with the ALMA/Primo integrated library system, as well as the development and maintenance of online subject guides and tutorials.

Starting Salary: Anticipated Salary; $71,008 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
