Technical Services Librarian I - North Haven Public Library

The North Haven Public Library seeks librarian I to develop, coordinate, and administer the operations of the Technical Services Department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Catalogs and classifies all library materials using contemporary bibliographic maintenance standards and practices, with an extreme attention to detail; Possesses a functional knowledge of RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings, MARC records, Dewey Decimal Classification System, and OCLC; Evaluates and prioritizes department needs. Recommends, develops, and implements policies and procedures to improve operations; Maintains and updates the Technical Services Department Manual/Online Portal; Receives, processes, and maintains orderly files for all shipments and invoices from publishers/vendors; Creates ILS list/reports as needed. Strong working knowledge of Excel required; Trains and oversees workload of all Technical Services Department staff and volunteers; Inventories and reports the Technical Service Department’s supply needs; Performs and oversees work of minor book repairs; Represents the library in bibliographic committee meetings and activities; Provide Reference/Circulation assistance across departments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and peers. Must be a team player. Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with public and library staff. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including a willingness to ask questions, are required. Keeps abreast of current and emerging library standards, processes, trends, and must be technologically proficient.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an ALA accredited college or university plus 1 -2 years cataloging experience. Knowledge of Sierra ILS and LION Consortium cataloging standards a plus.

Hours: The successful candidate is expected to work some evenings and Saturdays in rotation. This is a 35hr/week position and part of a collective bargaining unit.

Salary: $54,600.00
