We are looking for new members of our Children's Team at the Avon Free Public Library!
Applications are being accepted for the position of Part-time Children's Library Specialist (25 hours per week); our previous Children's Specialist was promoted to the Adult Reference Department (and we are so happy for them!).
We also have a separate 8 hour a week position to work 2nd/4th Saturdays and Thursday evenings (goal of 5-8:30pm), with additional substitute shifts available. This is a Children's and Teen Reference Desk position, without any Circulation duties.

What are we looking for in a 25 hour Part-time Children's Library Specialist?
Avon (pop. 18, 302) is a progressive community located in the Farmington Valley of Connecticut. We create a safe and accepting place for all: kids, teens, families, and staff. We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team in the Children's and Teen Department of the Avon Free Public Library. Applications are being accepted for the position of a Part-time Children's Specialist. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate who is a creative, innovative and energetic customer-service-minded person. The successful candidate should love working with children, find joy in storytime, have attention to detail, be familiar with child cognitive development, and help with outreach to preschools, daycares, and schools. Ideally the candidate can demonstrate a current knowledge of children's and young adult literature and programming, and can help purchase and maintain an up-to-date and diverse youth services collection. We have a thriving open art studio, intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation at any age; whether you have experience with an open art studio or not, our ideal candidate would be willing to explore and create. Daytime hours are required, one night shift a week, in addition to a weekend rotation.
