Community Engagement Specialist - Essex Library Association, CT

Join our talented team! The Essex Library Association is seeking a forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and creative team member who will elevate our communications, contribute to the library’s outstanding programming, and serve at our busy circulation desk.

We are looking for someone with excellent spoken and written communication skills, strong technology skills, imagination and creativity, attention to detail, and who enjoys providing welcoming customer service for the public.

Job Duties: Create content for website, social media, flyers, newsletters, reports and special publications. Draft eye-catching publicity materials for promoting programs, events and services. Work with a team to develop, create and execute programming including recruiting presenters, managing registration, Zoom meetings, capturing and recording statistics and outcomes, while ensuring that programs align with ELA’s mission and strategic goals. Staff circulation desk including assisting patrons with computers, answering phones, and circulating materials. Cooperate as a team member with other library staff, ensuring the highest level of customer service for the public. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: College degree is required; MLS candidate or degree is preferred but not necessary. Experience with Sierra III desired but not required. Outstanding customer service attitude. Strong technology skills (Windows Office, Canva, WordPress, Constant Contact, Publisher). Ability to perform detailed work with consistency and accuracy. Strong project management sensibility, self-directed, excellent time management skills. Works well independently and in a fast-paced environment.

About the job: 28 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday, may include evening & weekend hours to support programming. 11 paid holidays plus paid personal and vacation time. Eligible for participation in retirement savings plan. Compensation will start at: $19 - $22.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience.
