Circulation Supervisor - New Britain Public Library, CT

$55,138.10

Schedule:
Full-time position (37.5 hrs/wk) including at least one evening per week with rotating Fridays and Saturdays

Qualifications: A Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; a minimum of five years of experience in public libraries; a minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role in public library services. Ability to analyze and synthesize data for reporting, perform detailed work, as well as plan, organize, and implement long-term and short-term department goals. Strong computer literacy with knowledge of Integrated Library Systems, Microsoft Windows and Office, as well as Google and Adobe software products. Ability to communicate clearly, both oral and written, motivate others and cultivate a team environment. Clear understanding of the principles and practices of library systems as they relate to public services and circulation processes. Strong commitment to excellent customer service. The ability to work in a diverse environment with people of different backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using Sierra ILS. Proficiency in Spanish or Polish languages is desirable. Motivation to learn and teach others. Demonstrated creativity and flexibility; ability to discuss and coordinate projects with colleagues from other departments.

Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee the development and maintenance of the Circulation department, including its resources and services, under the supervision of the Head of Adult Services; recommend and implement departmental policy and procedures to meet the needs of the Library and its patrons. Perform interviews, recommend candidates and provide orientation for new staff. Train, supervise and evaluate department staff. Participate in disciplinary actions as necessary. Provide clear and effective communication to staff and department heads; demonstrate leadership, vision and guidance. Identify and resolve circulation-related problems. Participate in budget planning, preparation and management, establish workflows and implement processes across departments. Coordinate with other departments, ensuring ongoing communication of changes or updates to circulation policies and procedures. Participate on staff committees and working groups; keep abreast of trends and concepts through journals, webinars, live events, conferences, and professional organizations. Track and maintain circulation data, preparing monthly and annual statistical reports for the Director. Assist with collection development and maintenance of library materials. Perform routine Circulation desk duties, in addition to being cross-trained to work in other departments based on operational needs. Assume responsibility for the Library in the absence of a direct supervisor, as assigned. Oversee homebound services and deliveries. Perform other duties as assigned.
