General Statement of Duties: Provides professional librarian services
to Perrot Library patrons. Reports to Library Manager.
Education and Experience, LEVEL I:
Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an American Library
Association (ALA) accredited college or university plus a general
knowledge of library procedures.
Education and Experience, LEVEL II:
Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an American Library
Association (ALA) accredited college or university plus 18 months of
experience in professional library work. Some positions may require
demonstrated experience adding content to the online catalog or library
website.
Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge
of adult services in all formats. Proven knowledge of professional
library principles, methods, materials, and administrative
practices. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of current and emerging
technology as it relates to library applications, downloadable library
content, and online databases. Proven ability to effectively instruct
patrons in the use of technology to access the catalog, databases, and
online library services. Proven ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with colleagues as well as diverse
constituencies of library patrons.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides reference and reader’s advisory services for patrons using
library materials in various formats, including print and
digital. Participates in collection development, and in the selection of
materials, in accordance with the Library’s collection development
policy. Assists with developing content for the Library’s social media
platforms. Works with Library management to connect with community
groups to promote and deliver library services. Assists Library
management with the development and implementation of adult and
intergenerational library programs. Works alongside the reference staff
to build physical book displays. Posts weekly book reviews on
Bibliocommons. Assists patrons with the use of Library technology and
online resources. Keeps current with professional publications and
regularly updates self-knowledge of information resources and
library-related technology developments. Fills in on the Reference Desk
and Circulation Desk as needed. Supports Town policies and philosophies.
Performs related work as required. Some evening and weekend/alternate
hours required.
