Librarian 2: Outreach Librarian – UConn Health Library, Farmington, CT

     Reports to: Head, User Services
     Full-Time

Our health sciences library has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Outreach Librarian to join our team. The Outreach Librarian is a new position created to promote the Library’s services by developing innovative marketing programs with the goal of maximizing awareness and utilization of the Library’s resources and services. This position also provides consumer health reference services to members of the Connecticut public as well as UConn Health students, staff, and faculty.
     SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Head of User Services.
     SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May lead/supervise lower rank library staff members as assigned.

     Schedule: 40 hrs per week, Variable hours
     EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Lead Library Outreach Committee. Plan and execute library awareness campaigns, programs, exhibits, and special events with the goal of maximizing awareness and utilization of the Library’s resources and services. Promote Library programs and services using traditional, electronic, and social media vehicles, as well as targeted outreach initiatives and activities. Lead the development and dissemination of outreach materials and initiatives. On a rotational basis, staff the virtual reference desk. Responds to consumer health reference requests, from quick-turnaround inquiries to complex questions. Use all available resources, including electronic databases, webpages like MedlinePLus.gov, and grey literature, to respond to reference requests. Build and maintain a library of consumer health literature including books, pamphlets, electronic resources, and electronic subject guides. Provide training on the access and use of consumer health resources. Duties as assigned.
     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
     KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrated ability to formulate complex search strategies; to search and locate information from various sources; summarize and synthesize findings, and place findings in context appropriate for original requester. Experience with consumer health databases and websites such as MedlinePlus and NORD (National Organization of Rare Diseases). Strong communications skills, including effective writing skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate well across levels and function. Some supervisory ability.
     EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: General Experience: A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association, plus one (1) year of post graduate degree employment in a relevant area of professional library work. A minimum of one (1) year of experience must have been at a level equivalent to Librarian 1.
     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in an academic medical library. Experience with marketing and design software. 2-3 years of full-time experience as a professional librarian (including recent experience in outreach and consumer health).
     Full Time Equivalent Minimum Salary: $74,090.00
