Technology and Technical Services Manager – Town of Avon, CT

     Department: Library
     Status: Full-time, 37.5 Hours/Week
     Reports to: Library Director
     Salary Range: Grade II Exempt: $63,245-$87,122
     Closing Date: Open Until Filled

     Summary: Oversees Technology and Technical Services Department. Coordinates, plans, implements, operation and maintenance of library technology, software, computer equipment, network; maintains library website. May act as librarian in charge in absence of Library Director and other managers. Works under Library Director's general supervision in policy and procedures. Works with considerable independence in assigned areas. Regularly reports statistics to Director. Supervises, trains, evaluates Library Technical Assistants, Library Technicians, and possibly Library Assistants, Pages, and volunteers.
     Examples of Duties: Maintains the Library’s Local Area Network, servers, computers, and related peripherals. Performs system and equipment upgrades, new installations, backups. Plans, administers technology services, participates in library-wide planning and policy development. Plans budget for: new equipment, replacements, upgrades of library hardware and software. Oversees ordering, licensing, equipment, software. Maintains technology equipment, services inventory, statistics. Troubleshoots hardware, software problems, repairs. Coordinates outsourced technical support. Maintains all library A/V equipment. Coordinates emerging technologies. Creates documentation for technology configurations use. Maintains online public catalog computers, digital signage interfaces. Maintains online integrated library system, cataloging, serials, acquisitions modules. Imports bibliographic records including OCLC. Performs original and copy cataloging. Develops library materials processing procedures. Runs reports, statistics for Technology and Technical Services on regular basis, for other departments as requested. Coordinates digitization, network organizations. Maintains archive-quality standards for digitization settings, storage, description. Improves technology, cataloging systems: expansion of information resources, evaluating technology advancements, services. Works with Director on policies for Library Board of Directors and the Town Manager. Participates in planning for library growth, services, facilities enhancement. Prepares, updates Library’s Technology Plan. Works with Director, Department Heads to allocate, manage budget funds. Writes grant applications, administers approved grants.      Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science and two years of progressively responsible experience in library work. A working knowledge of all library functions including reference tools and techniques, computer applications for library services, and library administrative procedures. A strong working knowledge of library cataloging and familiarity with the Dewey Classification System, MARC, AACR2, and RDA cataloging standards and using OCLC is required as is a familiarity with online ordering. A strong working knowledge of computer applications, networks, and technical equipment applicable to library operations. Experience managing a website.
     License or Certificate: Valid Driver’s License.
