Library Development Associate – James Blackstone Memorial Library, Branford, CT

The James Blackstone Memorial Library is a public association library in the heart of beautiful Branford, CT. We are a 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer-member Board of Trustees. The Town provides approximately 85% of our total operating budget while the remainder is funded primarily through fundraising, grants, and donations.
     We have a new opportunity for a Library Development Associate. $21-$25 per hour, depending on experience, 24 hours/week (may go up to 28 hours the weeks of fundraising events).
     Position summary: The Library Development Associate will implement the library’s fundraising plan to increase financial support of the Blackstone Library. The Development Associate works under the supervision of the Library Director.
     Responsibilities include: developing and implementing fundraising campaigns and events of various size and reach, building and improving relationships with current and prospective donors, maintaining the donor database and producing reports as requested, preparing the Spring and Fall Annual Appeals, researching and identifying potential grant and other funding sources, designing and marketing planned giving and endowment programs, attending monthly Board meetings to deliver fundraising reports, and working with the Library Director and Development Committee of the Board of Trustees to draft annual fundraising goals.
     Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Experience in nonprofit financial development including grant writing. Current knowledge of development principles and practices. Proficiency with fundraising software, especially NeonOne/NeonCRM, and computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Experience creating marketing materials and performing community outreach. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Can interact courteously and professionally with all Library stakeholders. Understanding of public libraries and their role in the community.
