Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Librarian and Archivist to oversee
the Library and Archives of the historic Union Club of the City of New
York. The Union Club is a private social club in New York City that was
founded in 1836. It is the oldest private club in New York City and the
fifth oldest in the United States. The clubhouse is located at 101 East
69th Street on the corner of Park Avenue, in a landmark building
designed by Delano & Aldrich.
The Union Club Librarian is
responsible for the organization and maintenance of the library’s
circulating collection, rare book collection and archives.
Responsibilities include maintaining the physical book collection,
organizing, and maintaining institutional records, including documents,
photographs, maps, and multi-media records, and arranging for the
preservation and housing of archival materials.
In addition to
overseeing the library’s collections, the librarian acts as registrar
for the Club's art collection in collaboration with the Art Committee.
The librarian is also involved in planning and arranging events,
lectures, and author talks in collaboration with the Library and Art
Committees.
Requirements: MLS or MLIS from an
ALA-accredited institution. Experience with Art collection management.
Familiarity with OCLC; experience using integrated library systems;
knowledge of MARC cataloging and acquisition records. Experience with
archives and familiarity with records management and records management
systems. A background in American and European history, American and
English literature, and Art history would be an asset.
