The
North Haven Memorial Library is seeking a full-time Library Technical
Assistant in the Children’s Department. The ideal candidate should be
tech-savvy, innovative, enthusiastic, possess a passion for working with
children, and is committed to serving and engaging with this population
in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with the development and execution of children’s programming.
Create flyers and promote programs using social media and other news
resources. Manage programs/patron registration utilizing library
calendar software. Work at public service desk, with a commitment to
excellent customer service, in the following areas: (a.) Register
library cards; (b.) Circulate materials; (c.) Answer phones; (d.) Policy
explanation; (e.) Use good judgement, tact, and courtesy for complaint
resolution. Assist patrons with requests for information and selection
of materials, teach patrons how to use the library and technical
equipment. Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the Children’s
Department. Help to train and oversee work of part-time staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
Build strong partnerships with schools and work with other community
organizations to collaborate on projects. Accept additional duties as
assigned and is qualified to work in any department within the library
organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact with the public courteously with a special affinity
for children. Interest/knowledge of children’s literature and library
databases. Establish and maintains effective working relationships with
superiors, subordinates, and peers. Must be a team player. Effective
written and verbal communication skills, including a willingness to ask
questions. Strong organizational skills with an aptitude for maintaining
a clean physical workspace.
Minimum Qualifications: High
School diploma; Bachelor’s Degree strongly desired. Prior experience
working with children or in a library desired. Work two evenings a week
and Saturdays in rotation. This is a 35 hr./week position and part of a
collective bargaining unit. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee must stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with
hands and arms. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
and occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds.
Salary: $44,462.60
