Reporting to
the Digital Archivist, the Digital Media Librarian actively supports
the creation and promotion of digital collections, collaborating
especially with Special Collections and other library staff in support
of public and Trinity access, research, digital scholarship, and
curriculum. They hire, train, and manage student staff in the Digital
Imaging Studio, oversee digital capture workflows, ensure the proper
handling and safeguarding of materials, and perform quality assurance.
They will also develop a strong knowledge of copyright, fair use, and
open access resources, and will promote and advocate for the library’s
digital collections and services to faculty, staff, and other college
departments.
• Provides support to faculty and students needing
digital assets for publication, coursework or projects. Collaborates
with other staff as needed.
• Participates in identifying
library and archival collections for digitization, and in establishing
specifications and workflows for each project in accordance with best
practices of the profession. These include choice of appropriate digital
capture hardware, handling requirements, metadata schema, filenames and
accession numbers, file types, master file storage/directories,
location and protection of physical materials.
• Manages student
staff digitizing for Trinity repositories (print, image, and video
formats) as well as the hardware and software in the Digital Imaging
Studio, fulfilling faculty and student requests. Ensures proper handling
of fragile and rare materials, executes project workflows, oversees pre
and post processing and archiving of master files. Ensures accuracy and
quality of all digitization workflow output for publication to online
repositories.
• Explores feasibility and methods of providing
expanded online support for faculty course requirements, such as digital
print reserves and open access resources. Investigates workflows and
process, staff and time.
• Uploads digital content to digital
repositories, backs up master files, and maintains and updates
spreadsheets of published content.
• Promotes the library’s
digital collections and digitization services and works with the Digital
Archivist to make collections more discoverable. Creates blog postings
and other materials promoting library and archival collections available
online. Collaborates with others in LITS to promote services to campus
community; may lead workshops, promotional presentations or
communications.
• Participates in relevant professional
associations, workshops, and meetings to stay current with issues and
best practices related to digital collections including digital capture,
access, storage, DEI, software, hardware, copyright, fair use, and
digital preservation. Maintains relationships with CTW and other
professional colleagues.
• Supports and assists nontraditional
and digital scholarship efforts of faculty and students focusing on
projects utilizing the department’s digital collections.
• Performs other duties as needed by the department.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred. 1-3 years related experience.
MLS, MIS preferred (or equivalent certification, training, or
experience). Proficiency with media capture hardware and software and
ability to quickly learn new skills. Familiarity with metadata
standards. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Excellent
attention to detail. Ability to successfully execute multiple concurrent
responsibilities.
