Children’s Librarian - Rye Free Reading Room, NY

     Position Class: Full Time Librarian
     Passionate about providing young readers with quality programs and services?
     Excited to foster learning and engagement through story time, programs, and literacy activities?
     Looking to develop community interests into activities and educational opportunities?

     Summary: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, and with additional direction from the Senior Children’s Librarian, the Children’s Librarian provides general reference and information services; readers’ advisory; conducts collection development in all media types; creates and leads children’s programs; and, performs library advocacy. The Children’s Librarian provides assistance to customers using the library; resolves problems; and, acts as a role model for exemplary public service amongst staff and colleagues.
     Schedule: 36 hours per week, evenings and weekends as required, schedule subject to change.
     Qualifications: ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies. Active New York State Public Librarian Certificate. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated oral and written communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to handle detail orientated work. Strong commitment to public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patronage. Knowledge and interest in children’s literature and child development. Knowledge of youth centered programming and materials.
     Compensation and Benefits:
     Salary: $66,073 - $78,963
     Benefits include medical and dental insurance, paid time off, and enrollment in the New York State Retirement System.
