Open Library Initiative is looking for a Business Development
Specialist to join our team! We are seeking a creative, self-motivated,
business professional with a record of increasing responsibility and
demonstrated success in sales, business development, and account

The Business Development Specialist at Equinox is responsible for
developing business relationships and opportunities, qualifying leads
for new and existing accounts, coordinating marketing and communications
activities, identifying and responding to proposals, creating and
delivering presentations, traveling to client sites and conferences, and
has ownership of business development workflows across the
organization. This position is fully remote with travel required (up to
25%, pending COVID-19 considerations).
Responsibilities:
• Develop business relationships. Build relationships with present and
future clients and identify opportunities and partnerships. Learn about
client business needs. Provide information about the business and
technology solutions Equinox provides to public, academic, and special
libraries.
• Manage
current accounts. Stay in close contact with existing accounts to
understand client needs and expand awareness of Equinox's wide range of
programs and services. Provide information sessions and referrals.
Coordinate in-person and virtual meetings
and presentations.
• Contact
and qualify leads. Prospect new leads by making initial phone or email
contact. Connect with leads regarding product and service offerings and
Equinox's
unique mission-driven approach to providing library technology
services. Serve as the primary point of contact for inquires.
• Coordinate
marketing and communications. Bring
fresh ideas and experience to Equinox's marketing and communications
initiatives. Work closely with the communications and management teams
to align campaigns with business development objectives. Develop,
review, and approve content. Initiate, report,
and present market research to internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare
and present business information. Create and deliver product
demonstrations, client presentations,
and educational programs at events and conferences, in-person, and
remotely. Prepare internal reports, presentations, and data for
stakeholders and project leads.
• Respond
to RFQs, RFIs, and RFPs. Coordinate assignments, complete
documentation, compile financial and business data, and other relevant
business information, working closely with colleagues across the
organization. Prepare bid packages for approval and delivery.
• Optimize
business development initiatives. Set, plan, and achieve annual goals.
Create and maintain CRM and business data. Present progress reports.
Recommend workflow efficiencies.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS / MLIS), Business Administration
(MBA), or other relevant field preferred.
• 3-5
years of direct experience coordinating or leading business development
in a technology, education, and/or nonprofit organization,
with demonstrated achievement of business goals.
• Experience working in organizations providing and supporting software and IT services. Experience with open source software and
communities.
• Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and productivity software.
• Understanding
of business performance research, metrics, and data. Experience
writing, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. Experience preparing
sales quotes and presentations.
• Ability
to communicate
fluently in English, interact proficiently in verbal and written
communications, and describe complex concepts for technical and
non-technical audiences.
• Ability
to set schedules
and independently meet established deadlines with close attention to
detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote,
work environment.
• Demonstrated
experience
maintaining positive professional relationships, communicating
effectively internally and externally, exercising good judgment, and
escalating issues as needed.
