College is conducting a regional search for an Assistant Manager of
Access Services. The assistant manager will assist the manager with all
aspects of Access Services for Shain and Greer libraries. The assistant
manager will oversee and maintain the library’s reserve collection,
supervise processing of all materials on course reserves, supervise and
train student desk assistants; answer circulation questions; assist with
oversight of building facilities and security, assist with circulation,
including complex procedures involved with the transactions of library
materials to the college community and the processing of Interlibrary
Loan requests. This position is full time (37.5 hours/week) for 40
weeks and (20 hours per week) for 12 weeks during the summer.
General Duties & Responsibilities: (1)
Oversee activities of the reserve collection, including working with
faculty on reserves requests; resolving problems with incorrect reserve
citations and lost reserve materials; coordinating billing for overdue
or lost reserve materials; and digitizing materials to be placed on
reserve. (2) Train Access Services supervisors in reserves procedures,
and delegate tasks as appropriate. (3) Verify and send reserve overdue
notices; resolve problem files; send related correspondence as needed;
send lost/damaged library materials to technical services; resolve
patron records and process patron refunds. (4) Assist in supervising and
training student workers. (5) Oversee stacks maintenance and all
student shelvers. (6) Use library system for transactions in the
charging out of library materials, processing patron records,
determining materials status, locating resources within the system,
placing reserves, arranging for transfers, registering new patrons. (7)
Answer circulation and directional questions; refer other questions to
appropriate person or department. (8) Assist Access Services manager in
overseeing all operations related to Greer Music Library, including
staffing Greer as necessary. (9) As necessary, process ILL patron
records, determine materials status, and locate resources within the
system. (10) Monitor patron activities in the library and handle
problems as they arise. (11) Manage the department in absence of the
Manager of Access Services. (12) Assume responsibility for opening the
library in the morning regardless of weather, unless specifically
notified otherwise.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s
degree and 4 – 5 years of library experience required. Must have
excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to build and
sustain key relationships with management, faculty, vendors, students,
other library systems and staff; proficient computer skills including
use of an integrated library system, information databases and standard
production software and excellent interpersonal skills. The candidate
