Manager of Branch Library - City of Norwalk. Salary: $111,439.00 - $131,717.00 Annually (Effective January 1, 2022, Salary Range is $112,665.00 - $133,166.00). Job Type: Full-Time
Position Definition: Plans, organizes and supervises the Branch
Library; including the development and promotion of services; supervises
business and maintenance operations of Branch Library; and performs
general professional library work.
General Duties: Receives oral
or written direction from Director. Responds to and resolves patron
complaints and concerns. Plans work and priorities according to standard
procedures. Assigns work to professional and support staff as needed.
Oversees the computerized circulation of library materials. Oversees
training of staff members in circulation procedures and in dealing with
the public. Holds meetings for staff communication and development.
Responsible for the selection of book and non-book materials. Confers
with Director on purchase of items. Oversees the removal of outdated or
damaged materials. Supervises the administrative detail work of the
Library Branch including business and maintenance matters. Provides
professional library assistance to members of the public in reference
and related research requests. Assists the Director in near-term and
long-range planning for library development. Recommends policy changes
to the Director. Prepares statistical and narrative reports of some
complexity for the Director. Consults with Director on branch budget
recommendations. Administers approved budget for Branch Library. Plans
and implements children and adult section programming. Works closely
with the Library Director on branding, marketing, newsletters and social
media. Reports goals achieved to the Director.
Additional
Duties: Attends Library Board meetings as required. Recommends the
employment, promotion or discipline of employees. Prepares training and
development programs for library staff members. Participates in
professional library organizations to remain current of developments in
library practices, specifically Branch services. Develops and maintains
connection with local public and private schools and colleges. Speaks to
civic, cultural and other public groups to promote interest in the
Library. Recommends reclassification of selected materials. Performs
work in other areas of the library as assigned.
Supervised By: Receives general direction from Library Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills
and Abilities: Ability to apply principles of Library Science to solve
practical problems in situations where only limited standardization
exists. Knowledge of equity and diversity initiatives. Ability to
understand the uniqueness of the neighborhood it serves and to deliver
the appropriate services. Ability to follow and enforce policies and
procedures. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to prioritize assigned duties and report accomplished tasks to
supervisor. Ability to prepare and deliver brief, concise and attractive
reports of library services and facilities both orally and in writing. A
working knowledge of computer applications for library services and to
conduct virtual meetings. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office
software. Ability to work effectively with library staff and library
patrons.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Library
Science and four years of progressively responsible public library
experience, including two years supervising unionized staff. Ability to
speak Spanish and/or Haitian Creole language is preferred.
