Adult Services Librarian - Thomaston Public Library. Seeking
a collaborative, tech-savvy professional to join the Thomaston Public
Library team. The ideal candidate must enjoy working with the public,
and possess excellent computer literacy, communication and customer
service skills, as well as flexibility and creativity.
Duties & Qualifications: Works with the Director to create adult
programming as well as group and individual instruction in current and
emerging technologies and provides reference and reader’s advisory
service to the public at a combined Adult circulation/reference desk.
Helps maintain web page (currently undergoing contracted redesign) and
social media accounts. Therefore, the successful candidate must be
proficient in technology and have knowledge of the latest technological
and social media trends, plus a familiarity with library information
services and a high comfort level using and instructing others in the
use of technology. We also are looking to expand our in-house reference
and information services as well, so the ability to knowledgeably use
databases and sources to assist patrons is important.
The Adult
Services Librarian is responsible for other library duties as assigned
and must be available to occasionally cover the Children’s desk and
process children’s materials in the absence of the Children’s Assistant.
All duties will be performed under the general supervision of the Library Director.
Education and Experience: BA/BS required. Two years' experience in a
public library. MLS candidates encouraged to apply. A combination of
education and public library experience in circulation, reference, and
automated technologies will also be considered.
Hours: 35 hours
per week including weekdays, 2 nights, and every third Saturday outside
of July/August (9:30 am to 3 pm). Town of Thomaston full-time benefits.
Hourly rate $17.00-$22.00/hr depending on education and experience.
