Cataloger, Part-Time - Westport Library. PURPOSE:
Perform both original and complex cataloging and classifying of print
and non-print library materials and work to ensure integrity of existing
data.
ESSENTIAL TASKS: Maintain the Library’s catalog by
editing and adding MARC bibliographic records for a variety of
materials. Assign subject headings and cross references and appropriate
Dewey Decimal classification. Respond to cataloging-related inquiries or
problems from library staff. Catalog and process a wide variety of
library materials. Assist with the updating of digital records for
various databases. Troubleshoot problems in editing of MARC records.
Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES: Considerable understanding of library cataloging and
classification systems; including knowledge of computerized cataloging
databases including OCLC, knowledge of the procedures, practices, and
equipment of a public library; ability to communicate effectively, both
orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with other team members.
EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree. Experience in a public library setting
preferred. A comparable amount of training and experience may be
substituted for the minimum qualifications.
